First Dental Visit

What to expect

After our reception staff has processed your patient information we escort you to one of our consulting rooms. You’ll get to meet your dentist and his attending staff (a dental assistant and perhaps a dental hygienist).

The dental examination only begins once your Gentle Dental Care dentist has clarified your dental health needs, concerns, and expectations. Your dentist then outlines what he or she proposes to do during the examination.

We only proceed once you are completely comfortable all your questions are answered.

Where necessary we take x-rays. Our dental X-rays use 90% less radiation than traditional radiography systems (no long-term ill-effects) and these are immediately available so there’s no waiting for results.

Your first visit includes a comprehensive dental examination. We:

• screen for oral cancer
• conduct tooth-by-tooth digital charting to identify and record the current condition of your teeth
• complete periodontal charting to assess the condition of your gums

An intra-oral camera is sometimes used to provide you with a video tour of problem areas. Your dentist then outlines what comes next. Either everything is fine and we can arrange your next visit, or there are dental health issues you must address requiring additional treatment. We always outline all the available options.

Where an additional treatment is indicated, we prepare a treatment plan and schedule your next appointment.
